Keep On Planting!
Warm mid to late June weather will result in fast germination and growth when you make another sowing of favorites like bush and pole beans, corn, cucumbers, summer squash and zucchini, all of which will come to maturity happily in the long summer season ahead, long after your first crops have slowed down or finished. For leafy herbs like basil and arugula, definitely plant them again because your first sowing will insist on going to flower, and you want to have more of these essential kitchen herbs’ tasty leaves ready to enjoy when ripe tomatoes and peppers start to come on strong. We all look forward to spring planted carrots, beet and other root crops; be sure to sow them again in the warm soil conditions of June to ensure a good supply to pull as needed throughout late summer and fall. Even if the weather is hot, "cut and come again" baby lettuce mixes, baby spinach and heat sensitive herbs like cilantro can be sown in small quantities to harvest at just 4-5 inches tall. If it's really hot where you live, plan on planting salad leaves in a spot with afternoon shade or put a little canopy of shad cloth above them.
