Bees have been making headlines, and not in a good way. All across the country, honeybees are abruptly and mystifyingly disappearing—a phenomenon known as colony collapse disorder. The positive upshot of this unexplained decline of the honeybee is a general uplifting of consciousness about the value of pollinators of all kinds and an awareness of the things gardeners can do that will help sustain their populations.
