Woven Oak Harvesting Baskets
For over 140 years, this small family business near Chesapeake Bay, MD has been making quality traditional split-oak baskets by hand for hard-working gardeners and market farmers. Part of our national craft heritage, their basket making process is documented in the Smithsonian Institute.
Baskets Are Available In 2 Sizes:
Square Basket: 13x13x4 in. drop-handled basket is perfect for herbs, flowers, and salads. Originally designed in the 19th century as a pie man’s basket!
Rectangular Basket: the perfect workhorse: larger 18x12x4 in. size is big enough so only one trip from garden to kitchen is necessary.

These incredibly rugged but lightweight baskets are handwoven from grain-cut white oak splints with well-balanced, securely anchored drop handles. They have a natural beauty that increases with age and they provide decades of reliable service.
These traditional oak baskets are sturdy enough to put over your arm and then load up with a bounty of tomatoes or potatoes, heavy squashes, cabbages, or soil encrusted carrots and beets and, best of all, you can wash the produce clean right in the basket. We also always carry these baskets when snipping fresh herbs or cutting fresh flowers like zinnias, cosmos, and roses to make bouquets.
We think of these sturdy, graceful baskets as practical folk art, and have used them happily in our trial garden for well over 20 years. We never go out to pick anything without one of these old friends in hand and are glad to share them here. These baskets are not inexpensive, but they are really worth the price for their beauty, grace and durability.
