Organic Seed Coating
Printer Friendly Version
Question: What is the white film coating on some of our Certified Organic seed varieties like beets?
Answer: Our Certified Organic seed producer developed this white film coating in response to requests from small growers. It serves to give naturally dark brown and black seeds a color coat that helps with visual inspection of planting beds after sowing to insure proper depth and planting density (sowing rates), since Certified Organic seeds are expensive and need to be sown with care. The USDA’s National Organic Program has approved the coating for use in all Certified Organic operations so you can use it with assurance.
