GROWING INSTRUCTIONS
START SEEDS OUTDOORS
Squash needs full sun, rich fertile soil and warm temperatures. Plant only when spring weather is warm and settled and night temperatures stay above 55°F (13°C). Train these vigorous climbing vines up 6 to 8 foot stakes or a fence or trellis where they will make a lush leafy arbor or canopy and save garden space. Plant in full sun, sowing groups of 2 to 3 seeds 1 inch deep and 4 inches from vertical supports. Thin to the strongest seedling for each pole or to 12 inches apart along a fence.
GROWING NOTES
Amend soil well before sowing with lots of aged manure or compost. Protect young seedlings from marauding birds by covering with plastic berry baskets at planting time, removing when plants get crowded. Thin properly to get best quality fruits and highest yield. As young plants grow, tie them to supports.
HARVEST AND USE
Harvest these luscious, rich green zucchini when no more than 5 to 6 inches long for top flavor and texture. Frequent harvesting keeps plants producing tasty new fruits.
Slice to briefly steam or stirfry. Or cut in half and grill or roast these succulent squash until tender, then sprinkle with fresh parsley, dill, basil or thyme. Try the tasty blossoms sautéed or stuffed and baked.

This climbing zucchini is amazing! My best performing squash by far this season. Having it climb helps find squash bugs and eggs so easily. I’ll definitely be growing this again next year.
I’m growing these in a greenhouse where they fill out the upper tier and provide some dappled shade for other plants. They are already 7 feet long and show no signs of stopping anytime soon. Growing them vertically maximizes my production space, and avoids the usual zucchini sprawl. Plenty of fruit at a steady pace. I agree that they are best at 5-6” or they get a bit crunchy in texture.
This was my first attempt in growing zucchini on a trellis and the Escalator Zucchini did not disappoint! Incredible growth (use a long, tall trellis), great yield and beautiful fruit! This is a definite repeat for 2026!!
All 6 seeds I planted directly in my garden germinated quickly & are producing well. I find the zucchini a little drier than other regular varieties.
I only have one issue but it won't deter me from planting again next year. The vines had no interest in climbing the trellis. They kept sprawling out lower over my other garden plants. When I tried to move the vines onto the trellis they were very delicate, some to the point of breaking. Next year I may try planting behind the trellis to see if this helps with their desire to push forward.
High germination rates; Seedlings growing strong. Doing well. Would appreciate growing tips. Thank you!
Took right off soon after we planted them. Much better than seeds we have bought elsewhere. Glad we found this seller.
I planted just 3 seeds in my earth box, and they are all three thriving and climbing. Great seeds.
Not a lot of seed, maybe 10 or 11. I planted half of them and placed in the greenhouse, that did not go well, Had one start then fail (none of the others sprouted). I took the rest of the seed and started inside under the light. All 5 of them germinated. I took them out to the greenhouse and up-potted in approx. 5" pots. Now just waiting for them to be ready for planting. If they do well, this could be l be a 5 star rating.
Hi Cathy,
Thank you for sharing your experience. I'm glad to hear your seedlings did well when started indoors, and I hope they thrived once planted outside. Please feel free to reach out if you need any tips or support. You can reach me at customerservice@reneesgarden.com.

Just planted them
new seeds germinated and vines are climbing....thank you
I havent tried these but they just arrived. Jn excited to try a trellising kind!
This was my first time growing the escalator zucchini and we planted it in our two hoop boxes. I have to say it exceeded expectations. You know how you harvest zucchini on a Monday and on Tuesday you find one as big as a log? That doesn't happen with this variety. All fruits hung across the hoop trellis and were easy to spot and pick. There wasn't one hidden monster zucchini all season long. Lots of blossoms, hardy, prolific plants, and the bees loved them. We were so pleased, we won't be planting any other variety from now on. One bit of advice-- once the plants are established, trim back the leaves at the base for better air flow.
Too bad for the postal strike and waiting so long to receive my package but the seeds look great. Now to grow some soon.
