First Place winner:
Katie Neumann, Woodland, CA
"I took this photo of one of my Super Bush Tomatoes (Super
Bush Tomato plants are GREAT for small space gardening!!). I had just finished
watering my garden and was struck by the beauty of this particular tomato. The
contrast of colors between the red tomato and green leaves in the early evening
light really caught my eye."

More
about Katie:
"My name is Katie Neumann and I live in Woodland, California with my
wonderful husband and our three chickens—all who spend their day trying to steal
as many tomatoes from my garden as they can. I love gardening and over the years
I have become more and more passionate about it. I started learning about
gardening when I was a little girl helping my grandfather. I inherited his
passion and have named my garden “My Papa’s Green Thumb” in honor of how he
touched my life in so many ways.
Not having a very large yard, I’ve learned the creativity of gardening in
small spaces. I use the Square Foot Gardening method a lot and I’ve been amazed
at what you can grow in limited space. The past few years I have enjoyed
starting my plants from seed. There is a huge difference in the quality of your
plants when you start them from great seeds—my friends, family and even our
chickies can attest to that! I always give away my extra plants to friends and
family and it has been fun to see them have great success in their own gardens.
Someday I hope to have a little bigger backyard to expand my love of gardening.
Maybe then I can learn the creativity of gardening in large spaces!" |

Saniya with a Trombetta Squash crown
Kelly Majid, Berkeley, CA
"Saniya loves the garden and I love that she eats
anything from it. She spends the day chewing up basil leaves, green coriander
seeds and picking cherry tomatoes. She also loves freshly pulled beets and
radishes (I have to remind her that they taste better with the dirt washed
off!)." |
