Renee's Garden Seeds Makes A Difference
|
Every year, Renee's Garden donates seeds to a wide variety of organizations and
educational programs worldwide that strive to improve social, economic and health
conditions, and promote sustainable organic
gardening. We also encourage retailers to donate unsold Renee's Garden seeds to
local non-profit organizations at the end of the season. We are
pleased to share their successful outcomes.

"Seeds of Hope" -
Healthy Schools
Project of the
North Stockton, CA Rotary Club
These photos are from Rio Azul,
Honduras. School gardens were
planted at 2 rural grade schools, in
the communities of Rio Azul and La
Chorerra. "The kids are being
responsible about watering and both
gardens look great. We already have
some radishes and will have more
produce soon," according to Erin
Crites, a Peace Corps Volunteer. The
last two photos are also from a
Peace Corps Volunteer and show
lettuce and carrots in a family
vegetable garden in Potrerillos,
Copan, Honduras."

Village
Garden, Kurdistan
Kathy and Jamal Fuad have retired
to Jamal's native Kurdistan. Using
his expertise as a former
Agricultural Advisor at the World
Bank, he is helping Kurdistanis
learn about and practice local
agriculture that was devastated when
Saddam Hussein was in power. This
garden was planted to introduce new
vegetables and show villagers how to
have a thriving garden for everyday
use.'

Mahima
Orphanage, Nepal
"Mahima
Orphanage is located north
of Kathmandu in the town of
Balaju. It houses over
68 children (many whose
parents are too poor to feed
them) and 8 adults who live
and work there. The seeds
from Renee's Garden will
help feed these families and
children during the
difficult times in Nepal.
Many in this orphanage would
not have an opportunity to
eat something more than rice
and lentils (and meat only
once a week) and an
occasional green. The chard
seeds were looked at with
awe because of their
beautiful colors as were all
the greens that would soon
be planted to help
supplement their food."

Clifford School Garden
Redwood, CA
"Thank you for making our
first year in the school
garden such a success. It
seemed like every seed grew,
despite being sown by
inexperienced 2nd graders.
Students harvested their
first radishes before
Thanksgiving, and both kinds
of edible pod peas and
spinach from spring until
school stopped in June!
These 3 crops were our
biggest hits, producing
volumes of easy-to-eat food
that students devoured raw
on the spot and home by the
(recycled) baggie full with
great enthusiasm. By spring,
several parents were
inspired to start their own
vegetable gardens at home.
We are all thrilled to find
students so enthusiastic
about eating vegetables!"
