 Asclepias, "Bright Wings"

Anne van Oppen - Palos Verdes Estates, CA

I garden for insects! I bought these seeds to attract Monarch butterflies into my garden. They are on their second season. I have had many Monarchs visit them and lay eggs, but, these are photos of newly hatched Gulf Fritillary feeding on the nectar. Lots of butterflies of many varieties love this plant as well as other nectar feeding insects.

Thank You Renee for providing such high quality seeds. I bought other Asclepias seeds from other suppliers that did not germinate. I think I had close to 80% germination from your seeds!

Honorable Mention

Scarlet Runner Beans
Caryn Conrad
Bloomington Springs, TN
"It may seem unusual to choose runner beans for a photo contest, but these were beautiful! Neighbors stopped to ask what type of flower they were. I planted them in the front row of my vegetable garden. I really enjoyed them on the trellis."

"Trombetta" Squash
Linda Goodman
Oronogo, Missouri
"This squash was fun to grow.
I enjoyed frying it in the green stage and baking it when it turned orange. It makes great pies! It is a heavy producer and stores well. I have shared it with friends and taken many to the food banks for the needy. My longest squash was about 5 feet long."

"Trombetta" Squash

Jack Vallari (age 5) - Contoocook, NH

Jack proudly standing in front of his climbing summer squash "Trombetta" tower. "We built the tower (approx. 15 ft high) together from tree saplings cut on our property. Jack planted the seeds purchased from your company on July 2nd. On July 16th the plants were at the 2 leaf stage, and by the end of August the plants had climbed to the top of the tower! Jack told me the plants grew so well because he took care of them, implying they would not have done so well with someone else (e.g., me) taking care of them.

We live in Contoocook, NH. Jack's garden includes pumpkins, watermelon, peppers, cukes, scarlet runner beans, impatiens, a sensitive plant, edamame, and tomatoes. He planted them all, cared for them and proudly showed off his garden to anyone and everyone who entered our yard." -Robert C. Vallari (Jack's Dad)
