Planting for a
Second Gardening Season

The planting months of late summer are perfect for sowing seeds of short season varieties which tolerate cooler nights and shorter days and provide tasty fall harvests. We call this the "Second Season Gardening".

Seed Suggestions Welcome:
We expand our seed line every year, and look for new varieties as well as old fashioned favorites to grow out and evaluate in our trial gardens in different climate zones. If there is a particular variety you would like us to carry, email us at customerservice@reneesgarden.com and tell us why you recommend it.

In Our Trial Garden This Month:
We just completed our trial of different combinations of nasturtium colors, and rattlesnake and jumbo romano pole beans. The Spanish padron peppers are ripening as are tomatoes and baby bell peppers under trial. We are growing 12 new basils from French and Italian sources, as well as 6 edamame bean cultivars. Some of the flowers we are evaluating this season include nicotiana, monarda, marigolds, caliopsis, dahlias, container cosmos, rudbeckia, berlandiera lyrata (chocolate flowers), and hibiscus for tea. In the herb garden, are new slow-bolt cilantro cultivars. Our favorite Italian seed suppliers will be visiting soon, and I am looking forward to cooking from them from all of this bounty.

Renee's Garden sends seasonal messages, including information on our new varieties, Renee's articles and topics of interest, to our customers. To ensure delivery to your inbox (not bulk or junk folders), please add us to your address book. We respect your privacy and don't share or sell our customer list.
